Everything New Is Old Again

June 9, 2005 - Tulsa, Oklahoma -  Cooligans have decided to sing the best of both worlds and wish to announce they will now be TWO quartets in one. They will continue doing "barbershop" shows with Curt and also lean toward singing Doo-Wop and Gospel with Ron Mallow.  Some smart show producer should call and book TWO quartets for the price of five guys.  More info later on the songs the "new" combinatoin will have available.

News Flash - Everything Old Is New Again

January 19, 2005 - Tulsa, Oklahoma - 2003 SWD Quartet Champs, Cooligans,  are looking forward to a great new year in 2005 with lots of new music, an exciting new show package and a "new" lead singer.   Please welcome veteran quartet man, Ron Mallow of Tulsa. A 12-year barbershopper, Ron has performed with "Vocal Attraction" and "7th & Main" quartets and was actually the original lead of Cooligans back in 2002. He left the quartet due to business conflicts and now returns totally recommitted to the "new" combination and future top notch shows, recording projects and competitions.

Cooligans, Kent Cornwell, Eddie Wright and Darrell Davis will continue to fulfill their show schedule with lead Curt Angel through June and be ready with a new entertainment package, including original custom, never heard arrangements of Mo Rector, soon thereafter.  Curt leaves the quartet with all still good friends and his support for their future success.  The quartet will bypass Prelims as they re-tool.

Their trend setting CD, "Just Cool Again" is still available via their website, www.CooligansQuartet.com .  The "boys" are also still booking shows for the 2005 spring and fall show seasons. See the website for details or call (918) 402-2965 or email CooligansQuartet@aol.com .

Cooligans hope you have a harmonious new year and look forward to singing for you soon.

Cooligans Place 36th in Looovul
What a week.  The great International Barbershop convention was held in Louisville, Kentucky and our boys did a fantastic job representing the SWD and Tulsa by singing their hearts out on the huge International stage.  They placed 36 out of 52 of the best quartets in the world.  Singing their two best numbers, "That's Life" and "Shoo-Fly Pie And Apple Pan Dowdy" they scored 2322 points (77.4%) and were only 38 little points out of making the cut to the next top 20 round.  For all you math majors out there; that's only one and two-tenths points per song. It was a tight contest and Cooligans knew it would be tough to crack the top 20 on their first time out.

In the end, they were very pleased with the trip and the effort. The reaction they got from the audience and fellow competitors was inspiring. Singing on that stage is the ultimate dream of EVERY quartet and Cooligans saw a dream come true.  This was the first time for Kent, Eddie and Darrell to walk out on that stage.  All four plan to do it again next summer in Salt Lake City.

Tenor Kent Cornwell says, "This has been a wonderful experience and we learned a great deal.  We now know what to do to be better prepared next year."

Our congrats to the guys, as you can see from the photos on the photo page, they had a blast
.

Cooligans Qualify for Int'l Quartet Competition
Our boys have made it to the "big dance".  Cooligans recently qualified for the 2004 International Barbershop Harmony Annual Convention & Competition.  Only about 50 out of the thousands of barbershop quartets of the Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEBSQSA Inc.) qualify each year so this is an important milestone for the quartet.  The competition will be held in Louisville, Kentucky this summer (June 28-July 4).

They accomplished this feat the weekend of March 19/20 in San Marcos, Texas during the Southwestern District Spring convention and Int'l Quartet Preliminary Competition placing third in the overall contest.  Joining Cooligans in Louisville and representing the Southwestern District will be Saturday Evening Post (Colorado Springs, CO), Sterling (Central Texas/San Antonio, TX), McKinley Street Function (Lafayette, LA) and Max Q (Dallas/Ohio/Florida). Of course, Cooligans will be representing Tulsa, OK.
